BIO

Ricardo Mondragon is a multidisciplinary artist known for his work that explores the intersection of music, science, and visual art. Born in 1984 in Mexico City, he has developed a unique artistic practice that often delves into the concept of harmony, vibration, and cosmic order, drawing inspiration from concepts such as the "Music of the Spheres" and the physical manifestations of sound waves.

Mondragon holds a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Music Composition from Chicago, IL, which has deeply influenced his artistic approach. He has given talks at prominent institutions like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, sharing his insights on the relationship between music and the visual arts. His work has also been exhibited at the Design Museum of Chicago and in collaboration with the Louisville Orchestra.

In addition to his exhibitions and talks, Mondragon was awarded the Artist-in-Residence position at Fermilab, America's leading particle physics and accelerator laboratory. This residency allowed him to further investigate the links between art and science, particularly how concepts like waves and vibrations can be translated into sculptural forms.

Now based in London, Mondragon continues to create work that bridges the gap between art, music, and science, aiming to reveal the underlying harmonies that govern our universe.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Our cosmos is fundamentally shaped by musical dimensions, both audible and inaudible. Nature intricately weaves harmonic relationships through waves that manifest across various phenomena—ranging from brainwaves, cloud formations, and planetary orbits to atomic structures, circadian rhythms, and the synchronised movements of birds and fish. These waves align, crest by crest and trough by trough, crafting intricate anatomies of harmony. The body of work presented here is a compendium of these harmonic waves, translated into sculptural forms and prints that explore the interplay of waves, particles, and vibrations. Through this creative process, it has become increasingly clear that music serves as a profound pathway to cosmic knowledge.
